Early Years Learning Framework

Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia is an approved learning framework under the National Quality Framework and outlines practices to support and promote children’s learning.

The aim of the EYLF is to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. It assists services to provide young children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning. (from the ‘Guide to the National Quality Framework - www.acecqa.gov.au)

Staff use the EYLF as a basis for planning, assessment for learning and reporting on children’s learning.

Reggio Emilia

Educators and families have chosen the Reggio Emilia pedagogy as a way of sharing the learning journey together and the Principles underpinning this pedagogy are detailed in the information in your child’s Learning Folder.

At O’Halloran Hill Kindergarten we believe that there are strong links between EYLF and the Reggio Emilia pedagogy. Together they:

  • Focus on the whole child

  • Are underpinned by constructivist methodology

  • Focus on the child within their family

  • Emphasize the importance of attending to multiple voices to inform the curriculum

  • Are play based

  • Stress the importance of the inquiry process with children

  • Stress the importance of ‘big ideas’ and intentional teaching

  • Stress the importance of an active learning environment that includes families at all times.

Learning Contiuum

A summary of the Learning Continuum:

  • Children learn what happens in Kindergarten

  • Children learn how to be an active learner at Kindergarten

  • Children practise skills to achieve proficiency
